1. Sita Ramam

Directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, Sita Ramam is a period love drama film set in 2022 in Telugu, India. Starring Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur (making her Telugu debut), the film is produced by Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema. 

Other important characters include Rashmika Mandanna, Sumanth, Sachin Khedekar, Jisshu Sengupta, Murali Sharma, and others.

2. Thuppakki

Thuppakki, directed and written by AR Murugadoss, is an action thriller film set in India that was released in 2012. 

Vijay Aggarwal and Kajal Aggarwal are the main actors in the film, which was produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu of V Creations. The supporting cast includes Sathyan, Vidyut Jammwal, Jayaram, Manobala, and Zakir Hussain.

After seeing and narrowly escaping a bomb blast carried out by a sleeper cell, the protagonist, Jagadish, an intelligence officer in the Indian Army, sets out to locate, neutralize, and disable the group.

3. James

Directed by Chethan Kumar and produced by Kishore Pathikonda under Kishore Productions, James is an action drama film set in India that uses the Kannada language and was released in 2022. 

The title role is played by Puneeth Rajkumar, and the film also features an ensemble cast including Srikanth, Avinash Yelandur, Adithya Menon, Priya Anand, Anu Prabhakar, Madhusudhan Rao, Srikesh Rishi, Chikkanna, and John Kokken.

After passing away on October 29, 2021, this film was the second time Puneeth Rajkumar, Priya Anand, and Sarathkumar worked together, following Raajakumara (2017). It also marked Puneeth Rajkumar’s posthumous appearance.   

V. Harikrishna and Charan Raj composed the score and soundtrack, while Swamy. J. Gowda and Deepu. S. Kumar handled the cinematography and editing.

4. Naa Peru Surya, Naa Illu India

Vakkantham Vamsi made his directorial debut in 2018 with the Telugu action film Naa Peru Surya, Naa Illu India. Rao Ramesh, Allu Arjun, Arjun Sarja, Boman Irani, Anu Emmanuel, Thakur Anoop Singh, Sai Kumar, Pradeep Rawat, Harish Uthaman, Vennela Kishore, and Allu Arjun are all part of the ensemble cast in this film produced by Ramalakshmi Cine Creations.

The film follows a soldier whose goal is to serve at the borders but who is battling anger issues and is faced with the struggle of changing his conduct to achieve this goal. Vishal-Shekhar wrote the score, while Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao edited it.

5. Sarrainodu

Boyapati Srinu wrote and directed the 2016 Indian Telugu vigilante action film Sarrainodu, while Allu Aravind’s Geetha Arts produced it. The film’s main cast includes Allu Arjun, Aadhi Pinisetty, Rakul Preet Singh, Srikanth, Catherine Tresa, and Brahmanandam; supporting cast members include Sai Kumar, Jayaprakash, Suman, Pradeep Rawat, and Adarsh Balakrishna.

6. Keerthi Chakra

Major Ravi made his directorial debut with the 2006 Indian war picture Keerthi Chakra, which is set in Malayalam. The film stars Mohanlal as Major Mahadevan and boasts a stellar supporting cast including Biju Menon, Gopika, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Nawab Shah, and Jiiva. Jiiva makes her Malayalam film debut in this film.

Facts about occurrences in Jammu and Kashmir served as the basis for the film. This movie serves as the pilot for the Major Mahadevan franchise. The Kirti Chakra, an Indian gallantry award, is the inspiration for the title.      

7. Kurukshetra

Indian filmmaker Major Ravi wrote and directed the 2008 war film Kurukshetra in the Malayalam language. As the second part of the Major Mahadevan film trilogy, it serves as a precursor to 2006’s Keerthi Chakra and features Mohanlal’s return to the role of Colonel Mahadevan. 

The 1999 Kargil War between Pakistan and India is the basis of the film. From an Indian point of view, the conflict’s political condition is depicted. On December 16, 2010, the Malayalam film Kandahar was released. Major Ravi, is the film’s director.

The film’s protagonist is Mohanlal. Playing the lead role in this Malayalam film is Amitabh Bachchan.  The Hindi and Tamil versions of the film are also under production. The 1999 Indian Airlines jet crash is the subject of this film.

8. 1971: Beyond Borders

Major Ravi wrote and directed the 2017 Indian Malayalam-language war film 1971: Beyond Borders. The Major Mahadevan film series is back for its fourth chapter, and Mohanlal is back as Colonel Mahadevan and a new character, Major Sahadevan. Allu Sirish and Arunoday Singh are also part of it. 

This film serves as both a prequel and a sequel to the series; it is based on the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War and takes place in two different periods.

The Param Vir Chakra–winning actors Hoshiar Singh Dahiya and Arun Khetarpal, who fought in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, were the inspiration for Mohanlal and Sirish, respectively.

9. Major 

The 2022 Indian biographical action drama film Major was written and directed by Adivi Sesh and stars Sashi Kiran Tikka. Sesh (Best Actor at the 11th South Indian International Movie Awards) plays the role of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, a soldier who died in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.    

The film also features Prakash Raj, Sobhita Dhulipala, Saiee Manjrekar, Revathi, Murali Sharma, and Anish Kuruvilla. Sony Pictures International, G. Mahesh Babu Entertainment, and A+S Movies are the producers of Major.

10. Vishwaroopam II

The 2018 Indian action-spy film Vishwaroopam II, often known as Vishwaroop II, was written and directed by Kamal Haasan with screenplay contributions from Atul Tiwari and Chakri Toleti.    

Featuring Kamal Haasan, Rahul Bose, Shekhar Kapur, Pooja Kumar, and Andrea Jeremiah, it is the follow-up to 2013’s Vishwaroopam. The events in Vishwaroopam II transpire in India, as opposed to the American setting of the original film.

11. Sarileru Neekevvaru

Production of the film began in both Tamil and Hindi at the same time. The 2020 Indian action comedy Sarileru Neekevvaru was written and directed by Anil Ravipudi. The film is in Telugu. 

The production companies behind it are AK Entertainment, G. Mahesh Babu Entertainment, and Sri Venkateswara Creations. Prakash Raj and Rajendra Prasad have supporting parts in the film, which also stars Vijayashanti, Rashmika Mandanna, and Mahesh Babu. 

The score was written by Devi Sri Prasad, and the cinematography was done by R. Rathnavelu.S. Krishna, Raghunath, and Umapathy.

12. Hebbuli

Srinivas produced the 2017 action thriller Hebbuli, which was shot in Kannada. Sudeep and V. Ravichandran, who previously collaborated in Maanikya (2014), reprise their roles in this film. Amala Paul first appeared on screen in Kannada films. The villains are  played by P. Ravi Shankar, Kabir Duhan Singh, and Ravi Kishan, who is also making his Kannada debut.

13. Vaaranam Aayiram

The 2008 Tamil action drama Vaaranam Aayiram was produced and written by Aascar Films’ V. Ravichandran and directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon.  The film’s female leads are Simran, Sameera Reddy (making her Tamil debut), and Ramya, while Suriya plays the dual roles of father and son. 

Harris Jayaraj composed the score for Vaaranam Aayiram, which was Menon’s penultimate film with him before they officially broke up. They would later collaborate on Yennai Arindhaal (2015). Both R. Rathnavelu and Anthony Gonsalvez contributed to the film’s cinematography and editing, respectively.
