Surat is a city in Gujarat. It is spread over the area of 326.5 square kilometer. The city is a center for diamond cutting and polishing and it is eighth largest city and ninth largest urban agglomeration in India. The city centre is located on the Tapti River, close to Arabian Sea.
Surat also known as the textile hub of the nation or the Silk City of India. It is famous for cotton mills and Surat Zari Craft and it is a biggest centre of MMF (man-made fibre) in India. There are about 381 dyeing and printing mills and 41,100 powerloom units. It is largest manufacturer of clothes in India and Surti dress material can be found in any state of India.
The city also has number of IT companies present in the city. MNC IT companies like IBM, HCL have their satellite or virtual branches.
Surat was the world’s 4th-fastest growing city in 2016 according to a study conducted by the City Mayors Foundation and now again in 2018, the study of Oxford Economics said that the Surat is the Fastest Growing City in the world and it ranked at first position.
