India has over 24 crore households & around 10 crore families are deprived of LPG gas cooking fuel. These poor families still have to rely on firewood, coal, dung – cakes etc. as primary source of cooking. The smoke from burning such fuels causes alarming household pollution and has adverse affects on health of women & children causing several respiratory diseases and disorders. So, modi govt. now provides free LPG gas connections to all the poor family members in the name of women. Under PMUY scheme, govt. provides financial support of Rs 1600 for each LPG connection to the BPL households.
