M. S. Swaminathan is an Indian geneticist and administrator who was born on 7 August 1925 in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. He also known as the “Father of Green Revolution in India”. The full name of M. S. Swaminathan is Mankombu Sambasivan Swaminathan. He introduced developing high-yielding varieties of wheat in India. He is also the founder of the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation. Swaminathan was the director general of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research From 1972 to 1979. He was Principal Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture from 1979 to 1980. M. S. Swaminathan was one of 3 Indians on Time’s list of the 20 most influential Asian people of the 20th century in 1999.
