Gorkha Rifles is an infantry regiment. It was completely active in 1948 in India after independence. Gorkha Rifles have 6 regular and one Territorial Army battalions. The Gorkha Rifles took part in all major military operations including the 1947 India Pakistan War, 1948 Operation Polo, 1965 India Pakistan War, 1971 India Pakistan War and in the Kargil War.
